Thu 17th Jul 2008: It's time for a change in Britain. Families are over-stretched. Things look bad for the economy. Schools and hospitals don't seem to be improving despite all the extra money and hard work by staff. People don't believe politicians care, or really listen. Mon 30th Jun 2008: Birmingham Lib Dem MP John Hemming is calling on the Government to immediately halt the "big mistake" of closing post offices across Birmingham. The Post Office announced the decision to close 26 post offices across Birmingham on 24 June 2008. Fri 30th May 2008: Birmingham Facing Climate Change Challenge. Birmingham is hosting a Climate Change Festival from 31 May to 8 June 2008 as part of its commitment to a low carbon future. The 8 day event will bring together leading environmental experts and further details can be found at www.climatechangefestival.org.uk Fri 2nd May 2008: Thank You for Your Support - Local Elections 2008. Councillor Paul Tilsley, Leader of the Lib Dem Group on Birmingham City Council, has thanked all those who supported the Liberal Democrats and contributed to a "fantastic night" for the party in Birmingham. Sun 27th Apr 2008: Lib Dem leader warns of more Post Office closures. Speaking to the Birmingham Post earlier this week, party leader Nick Clegg emphasised that the Liberal Democrats had plans to save about 200 Post Offices in the West Midlands. The Labour Government has agreed to the closure of at least 2500 Post Offices across the UK. Fri 25th Apr 2008: Promise of jam tomorrow is not enough. Liberal Democrats in Birmingham have attacked Government offers to compensate low income earners losing out under tax changes as "vague promises of jam tomorrow". Tue 8th Apr 2008: Severn Trent Water fine should be used for environmental investment. Commenting on Severn Trent Water's record £35.8m fine for supplying false data to industry regulator Ofwat and providing poor customer service, Liberal Democrat Environment Spokesperson, Martin Horwood MP said: Mon 7th Apr 2008: Liberal Democrats Launch Local Election Campaign. Nick Clegg has launched the Liberal Democrats' local election campaign, highlighting the party's record of offering genuine improvements for people across the country. Fri 4th Apr 2008: Birmingham's Labour MPs vote for Post Office closures. Liberal Democrats in Birmingham have accused Birmingham's Labour MPs of failing to support local services after 7 of them voted to support the Government's massive post office closure programme. Wed 12th Mar 2008: Euro MP: Plastic Bags Tax Welcome, But Hardly Makes Budget Green. Commenting on today's budget announcement of possible future taxes on single use plastic bags, local Euro-MP Liz Lynne said: Thu 6th Mar 2008: Birmingham Welcomed Fairtrade Event. Victoria Square today played host to a Fairtrade event, jointly organised Birmingham City Council and the Fairtrade Association Birmingham (FAB), to raise awareness of Fairtrade. Councillor Paul Tilsley, Leader of the Lib Dem Council Group, said: "As one of the more advanced countries in the world we have a clear social and moral responsibility to lead the way in ensuring all the goods we buy have been ethically sourced and produced." Tue 26th Feb 2008: Low Council Tax Increase Welcomed. Liberal Democrats in Birmingham have welcomed a below inflation increase in Council Tax, after years of record increases by the previous Labour administration. Lib Dem councillors supported a 1.9% increase and greater investment in frontline services at the Council Budget meeting on Tuesday 26 February 2008. Lib Dems call for a sustainable New Street Station. Councillor Paul Tilsley has called for the new New Street rail station to be at the cutting edge of sustainability. The new station should be fit for the 21st Century and something that Birmingham can be proud of. Sun 10th Feb 2008: Birmingham City Council surges ahead with three stars. Liberal Democrats in Birmingham have welcomed the news that the Council has been awarded three stars by the Audit Commission, the local government watchdog. Lib Dem Council Group Leader Paul Tilsley said: "We are working for the interests of the people of Birmingham and achieving excellent services that give value for money at a price everyone can afford." Wed 9th Jan 2008: Lib Dems call for Action on Fuel Bills. Local Liberal Democrats are calling for increased help with fuel bills for the elderly and others on low incomes. Councillor Paul Tilsley (Sheldon Ward) called for a fair deal as he proposed a motion at last night's City Council meeting, highlighting that there are more price rises to come.
