Cleaning up in Hodge Hill12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 12th Apr 2008
Energetic Lib Dem campaigners in Hodge Hill are showing that it's action not words that are important in the fight to clean up our local area. Lib Dem Councillor Gwyn Neilly has been joined in her fight to get rid of graffiti and dumped rubbish from our roads and parks by well known local activist Maureen Barnsley. Maureen has been Chair of the Ward End Residents Committee & Neighbourhood Watch for the last 16 years. Gwyn said "Once we know there is a problem, we can get it cleaned up ." In recent weeks Maureen got clinical waste cleaned off Hodge Hill Common on the day it was reported to her.Maureen said "We have also taken action to get pot holes filled on local roads and get pavements repaired. "This makes pedestrians, car drivers, cyclists and other road users much safer." Gwyn Neilly added "I have only been a Councillor for a year, and I have managed to get a lot done.Labour have had 20 years as Hodge Hill's local Councillors. They have failed to do anything to sort the problem. Local people have had enough." To tell Gwyn and Maureen about a problem, call them direct on 0121 242 2955. You can also call the council to report graffiti for removal on 0121 303 1112. For dumped rubbish call 303 1112.
